Inlet valve problems on Ingersoll Rand screw compressor

Hi Rex, Thanks for your question. First, make sure the the control system is working 100%. In other words: that the inlet valve is getting it's control air signal to open or close. If that's OK, but the inlet valve simply stays closed, then the inlet valve is probably dirty inside and/or stuck. The inlet valves very often have a big main valve (for opening / closing) and 1 or 2 auxiliary valves (pilot valves) which are also used for blow-down, etc. First, open and clean these pilot valves. They are often the problem (dirty or worn o-rings). Then if that doesn't help, the main piston is stuck. You have to open it completely. (Be careful, there's a very powerful spring in most inlet valves. Don't simply undo some screws, it can pop open in your face). Clean and replace all sealings inside. It's best to get an overhaul kit from IR so you can replace are wear-parts. Good luck and let me know if you need any more info! Cas
