Question
My 8yr old compressor is making a metal on metal screeching noise that is kind of high pitch. It is located in a woodworking shop and believe dust may be inside it. if I take off the head to clean out the pistions whats the torque for the bolts to evenly tighten it back down? Also wont i need to get a replacement gasket or is it possible to reuse the old one? is there a cleaner i can use inside?

HI, That sounds must be awful to hear. Not sure about the torque on the bolts - of course it varies by model. But for smaller compressors (< 20 hp) this usually is not really an issue (the bolt torque). Just make sure you tighten it, but don't overdo it. For the gasket... that's a matter of luck. Of course it's best to replace it, but if you're careful when removing the head, you might be able to re-use it. Good luck. Metal on metal doesn't sound promising.. let me know what you find. All the best, Cas
