Air filter

Question
I have a used craftsman air compressor. The issue is when running it blows air out the air intake filter. I unhooked the line to the check valve and the air still flows out air filter. Could the wiring be backwards and pump running in wrong direction?

Hi Jerry Does the pump or motor have a direction of rotation arrow if yes then check this is correct. If its a piston style compressor then it should pump air in either direction, but if running backwards may not lubricate the crank shaft and bottom bearings correctly. If air is coming from the intake and if feels like it is sucking and blowing then there is a problem with the valve plates and or the head gaskets.
