Air compressor starts, builds air

Unit starts fine, revs up to build air and then idles back down when pressure achieved. When air is demanded from unit, it does not rev up and build air, It drains air to my hose and does not recover. Close air valve to my hose and unit idles and does build air. Quincy QS 160 D I think. All oil levels fine.
