Question

                        Hello, I was hoping for some guidance.  I have a Campbell Hausfeld 200   PSI Portable Air Compressor (Oil less). I recently changed my check valve   as my unloader valve was constantly hissing...This fixed that   problem...... but I still can't get my compressor to build past 40 PSI?  My   question is this: I am assuming I need to replace the valves, and   therefore, am prepared to buy a valve kit, but how do I know it ain't   the piston and cylinder stopping me from building pressure?  When my   tank is off it holds the little air that is in it..no obvious   leaking...hoses are tight, but of tank is closed,....but only little   pressure?  Should I replace both the piston/cylinder and   valves/gaskets?  Thanks.

						Hi Shane,Great question! It looks like you successfully fixed your first problem. For the second problem. If your compressor won't pump over 40PSI, this is 99% of the time a problem with the check valves.40 - 50 PSI seems to be some magical value here :) %This is typically the maximum pressure those piston compressor can reach with broken/worn valves.To be more sure that it's not the piston/cylinder.. you can check if there is air coming out (pulsating in/out) of the inlet filter. This is usually the case if the inlet check valves are broken.Also, if the piston is leaking, the compressed air will end up in the oil sump / crank case. You should be able to notice this somewhere.But I would just check and replace the valves/gaskets first!Good luck!
