Hi,
We have 03 Atlas copco GA 55+ compressirs. We are facing high element temperature problem in 02 of the compresors.
Problematic comp: Operating pressure ~ 7.3 bar with element tempeeature ~ 108 oC. Cooling water supply is 31 and return temp is 37 oc. Cooler oil return hose is actually hot.
Normal element temp but pressure cannot exceed beyond 6.8 bar with discharge valve almost fully closed where as loading is set at 6.5 bar and unloading at 7.5 bar: operating pressure is 6.4 bar with element temp of 74 oC. Cooling water supply is 31 and return is 39 oC.
We have chemically cleaned the coolers also however no significant change is observed in the element temp.
Periodic maintenance is done at time and new oil with new filters were used. Problem still persist.
Please suggest way forward.

Hi Ali,

It sounds like there might be a problem with the screw element.

Maybe the oil lines to the screw element are blocked and there is not enough oil for cooling and lubrication.

Or, the screw element is nearing the end of his life. How many running hours does it have?

You can try to turn it by hand and feel if it runs smooth or not.

Of course - stop compressor and disconnect power supply for safety!

Please let me know.

All the best,

Cas
