185cfm John Deere compressor - coupling

From my IR-185 tow behind diesel air compressor, why am I breaking almost 3 times that rubber coupling joining the motor to the compressor? Almost 3 times is probably because we didn't tight that set screw tight enough on the compressor shaft and the gear moved on the shaft to finally desingage the mechanisim...

Hi,

When does it break exactly? During running or at startup?

If the screw element gets flooded with oil after some time of standstill this can sometimes happen.

It will make the engine harder to start - because of the extra resistance of the oil - and it will cause extra stress on the coupling.

But yes, please also make sure you tighten all bolts to the correct moment.

Hope this helps.

All the best,

Cas
